Nation Building and Democracy
|
This program focuses on studies, reflections, debates, and dialogues that promote political consensus on pertinent issues of nation building and the deepening of democratic and civic culture in Ghana. Competitive multiparty electoral contests tend to mobilize bias and flare up the structural social cleavages in the multi ethnic and heterogeneous Ghanaian society. While this tendency is cyclical and observed forcefully during electoral campaigns, its management tends to be poor and ineffective and, therefore, weakens national cohesion. This programme has therefore been designed with the view to improving the management of the negative effects of electioneering on social cohesion and rendering the multiparty democratic politics a viable framework for nation building.
